Kerper's Gun Shop LLC First Time Buyers

First Time Buyers

Buying a firearm online for the first time can seem like a daunting task. We have compiled the following step-by-step guide to help you navigate the online purchase and transfer process.

  1. Identify the firearm that fits your needs. There are a number of resources available online that can help you compare different models, calibers, or features to help determine which firearm will best meet your needs. A few helpful links are:
  2. Browse our inventory. Check our “Firearms” pages to see if the firearm(s) you are looking for are currently in stock, or stop by and talk to one of our sales associates. They will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have and check our distributors inventory for the firearm you want.
  3. Payment: We offer a 90 day layaway plan with a 10% non-refundable deposit. Full payment will be required at the time of pickup.
  4. Shipping: We will gladly ship any in stock firearm to an FFL that is closer to you (State Laws permitting).
  5. Picking up your firearm: Once the firearm is received in house, you will need to appear in person to complete the necessary paperwork and background check to take possession of your purchase. To start this process, you will need your current, valid PA driver’s license or PA Identification Card. If your address is different from what is on your license, you WILL NEED your update card showing your current residence address.

There are either one or two forms you will need to complete, depending on whether you are purchasing a long gun or a handgun. Once these forms are completed and signed, your background check will be initiated. This process can go automated and take just a minute or two, or, there are times the background check will go into a “pending” status, where we must wait for an operator to run the check manually. This manual process can take anywhere from just a few minutes, to upwards of several hours. Unfortunately, this timeframe is unpredictable. We are at the mercy of the PA State Police operators who run the checks, and it just depends how busy they are at the time.

Once we do receive the approval number for your background check, that number is recorded, additional signatures will be acquired if needed, and the paperwork portion of the process will be complete.

If you have any questions about the firearm before you take possession of it, we will gladly answer them. We don’t want anyone leaving with a firearm they are not comfortable operating. Ask about anything you aren’t sure about… there are no dumb questions when it comes to firearm safety!

We also have several names of certified firearm instructors that we are happy to share with anyone who is looking for instruction. From individual first-time range assistance with your own firearm, to group rates, they will do what they can to help you get the most out of your range time.
